Guinea-Bissau and Senegal sign agreement for cinematographic co-production

Guinea-Bissau and Senegal have signed a 24-year agreement for the co-production of films, soap operas, and television series, announced the Guinean Minister of Culture, Augusto Gomes.

The information was released recently, by the minister, during the signature of a cooperation protocol with the minister of Culture and Historical Heritage of Senegal, Aliu Só, who was in Bissau at the head of a delegation from his country invited to attend the Carnival.

The parties also initialed an agreement for Senegal to support Guinea-Bissau in its initiative to elevate the Bijagós islands and the Bissau Velho area to the status of the United Nations Educational world heritage, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

On occasion, the Guinean Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports also noted that Senegal would support the country in the strategy to make music and Bissau join UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, praising the agreements signed with his counterpart, having also highlighted the experience of Senegal in the field of audiovisual production, focusing on cinema.

In his turn, Senegal’s Minister of Culture and Historical Heritage emphasized the opportunities both countries may experience from co-productions in cinema and gave the example of his country’s experiences with France.

The Senegalese minister said he believes in “the creative potential” of the Guineans for co-productions and announced that Guinea-Bissau will be the special guest in the celebrations of the birth centennial of Ousmane Sembène, considered the “father” of African cinema.
