Brazil: Podemos party criticizes Dallagnol’s mandate removal and will appeal

The national president of Podemos, Renata Abreu, criticized Tuesday night (16) the removal of the mandate of federal congressman Deltan Dallagnol (PR) by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) by unanimity among the judges.

In a note released to the press, Renata says that “Brazil and the national parliament lost with the decision that changed the understanding of the TRE-PR [Paraná Regional Electoral Court]” that approved the candidacy of the former Federal Prosecutor for the 2022 elections.

“The expressive vote that the former head of Operation Lava Jato obtained at the polls, more than 344,000 votes, corresponds to the massive popular approval of his work in the fight against corruption and defense of Brazilian society,” pointed out the president of Podemos.

Also, according to Renata Abreu, the party is in solidarity with the parliamentarian and “will spare no effort in evaluating the measures that Dallagnol’s defense can still take.

Podemos has called a press conference at 2 pm to explain how Dallagnol’s defense will appeal the TSE decision.

Dallagnol had his mandate revoked after the TSE accepted a complaint filed by the Brazil of Hope Federation alleging that the former prosecutor had requested his resignation from the Public Ministry while an Administrative Disciplinary Process (PAD) was pending, which, according to the Ficha Limpa Law, would make the former Lava Jato prosecutor ineligible.

However, the Regional Electoral Court of Paraná (TRE-PR) recognized that he had no pending PAD at the time of dismissal and granted the candidacy.
