Brazil: Moraes’ actions against Bolsonaro generate “doubts about legality” – Folha

The website of the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper has published a report classifying as a “raid” the recent actions of Justice Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Court (STF), against people close to former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The report was published on Tuesday evening, 16.

In the headline, the newspaper claims that Moraes’ decisions have generated “doubts about legality.”

The newspaper’s report talked to five criminal lawyers for such an affirmation.

Among other points, Folha writes that the STF Justice ordered the lifting of the secrecy of the telephone records of Mauro Cid, a former presidential aide who has been detained in Brasilia since the beginning of the month.

With this, the media points out that Bolsonaro’s routine as head of state was exposed.

“Criminalists heard by Folha say that, because it is an exceptional measure of investigation, it is only adopted from concrete evidence of its necessity and in proportion to what is investigated,” says the website of the São Paulo newspaper in an excerpt of the report.

In this sense, the vehicle reinforces that, in 2022, the Prosecutor General’s Office requested six times the archiving of the investigation against Bolsonaro.

In the report, which highlights “doubts about legality” of Alexandre de Moraes’ actions against former president Jair Bolsonaro, Folha de S.Paulo interviewed the following criminalists:

• Vinicius de Souza Assumpção, second vice president of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences;
• Marina Coelho, lawyer and counselor of the São Paulo Lawyers Institute;
  Claudio Langroiva, professor of criminal procedural law at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo;
• Cecília Mello, lawyer and retired judge from the Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region;
• Tatiana Stoco, lawyer and professor at Insper.
