New Brazilian government will have 35 ministries, 12 more than now

The future Brazilian government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will increase the number of ministries to 35, a third more than the current 23, official sources reported today.

As explained by the future Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, there will be a new ministry that will be in charge of taking care of the management of the federal Government, grouping tasks such as human resources and digital Government.

This ministry will be created after the division that will be made in the Ministry of Economy, which will be divided into several new ministries.

Currently, the Brazilian government has 23 portfolios, 18 of which are ministerial and three from agencies equivalent to ministries. The number of ministries in what will be Lula da Silva’s third term will be very similar to the 34 he had when he first assumed the Presidency, in 2003.

The president-elect has already announced that he wants to create the Ministry of Original Peoples, responsible for the development of public policies for indigenous peoples.

For now, Lula da Silva has already announced some of his future ministers, although according to Rui Costa, in the coming days the president-elect will finish defining the names of all the members of his government as well as the final structure of the Executive.
