RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – An asylee in Mexico, Morales condemned the US government for “reconfirming the de facto government”.
“I ask that international organizations such as the UN, countries that are friends in Europe and institutions such as the Catholic Church (…) to join us in the dialogue to pacify our beloved Bolivia,” the former president wrote in a tweet, “violence is threatening life and social peace,” Morales added.
Shortly before, Morales had condemned US President Donald Trump’s decision “to acknowledge the de facto and self-proclaimed right-wing government”.
“After having imposed [Juan] Guaidó [president of the Venezuelan Parliament], he now proclaims [Jeanine] Áñez [in Bolivia]. The coup that is causing the death of my Bolivian brothers is a political and economic conspiracy that comes from the United States,” he said.
Evo Morales resigned as Bolivia’s president last Sunday, November 10th, and denounced a “political, civic and police” coup against him.
Hours after resigning, he traveled to Mexico, due to political asylum granted by the government of Andrés López Obrador.
