By · May 3, 2022 · 2 min read

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reported that talks are underway between the governments of Mexico, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile to create a lithium association to share knowledge, experience, and technologies to develop the mineral.

At the morning conference, he said that the countries need to share their experiences, especially in the case of Bolivia, where lithium is also nationalized, to move forward together on methods to extract and use the material.

The questions of May 3 “There has been some communication with the president of Bolivia; he, in turn, has a relationship, as we do, with the president of Argentina, who also have lithium, and with the president of Chile, intending to create a partnership to help each other,” he said.

Although he clarified that private companies run the industry in Chile and Argentina, he pointed out that the governments of these countries are interested in supporting the mining of lithium. It has also been nationalized in the case of Bolivia and Mexico, so there are synergies to consider.

“We will cooperate in all development related to exploration, processing, and new technologies,” he said. Earlier, the head of government assured that he was confident that this project could be realized, as the country’s finances are healthy and tax revenues continue to rise.
