With strong criticism of financial agents, the President of the Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, reported on a recent meeting with his economic team, naming ministers Fernando Haddad (Finance) and Simone Tebet (Planning and Budget).

According to the president, he asked everyone to stop using the word “spend” when it means some investment in public policies and works.

In a meeting with journalists, Lula da Silva again criticized the financial market for the demands made on the government.

“They don’t say that the government cannot pay so much interest,” declared the President of the Republic.

“The market doesn’t have heart, sensitivity, humanism. It doesn’t have solidarity. Just come to us, to your kingdom, nothing. The government has an obligation to take care of people in need and period”, he said.

He added: “People will be nervous, but we are going to stop these people from being miserable. We ended hunger once and we will end it again.”

Lula da Silva returned to defend a tax policy that makes the rich pay more taxes. “I’ve never seen Febraban [Brazilian federation of banks] come together to say that they’re going to take part of the interest they receive and give it to Priest Júlio Lancellotti“, he went on to say.

Even so, Lula da Silva once again said that there is no need to be concerned about the PT governments, due to the fact that he had run a primary surplus over the eight years of his administration.

According to Lula da Silva, the new salaries of Eletrobras directors after privatization are close to R$300,000 per month. The government is responsible for nominations.

“This is not throwing money away? How are we going to explain it? Where is the seriousness they demand from us?”, he continued.
