The US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said no coastal watches or warnings were in effect, and it still asks people on Mexico’s southwestern coast to monitor Vance. Through Thursday it expects 2 to 4 inches (50 to 100 mm) of rain, with isolated totals up to 7 inches (180 mm), across the Mexican states of Colima, Nayarit and Sinaloa and western Michoacán, Jalisco and Durango.

That rain may cause flooding and mudslides on steep terrain. Swells are likely to bring life-threatening surf and rip currents to southern and southwestern Mexico for several days, so consult your local weather office.
