Lapalê Literature and Culture Festival Returns to Lapa

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Bringing writers, artists, and historians together, the Lapalê festival will return to Praça dos Arcos (Arcos da Lapa) for its second edition on Saturday, May 7th and Sunday, May 8th. This edition of the festival once again will feature a book fair, book launches, live music, DJs, tours, debates, and food and crafts vendors.

The festival will begin at 10AM on Saturday, May 7th with the opening of the Junta Local, a gastronomic fair featuring forty food and drink producers and vendor.

Next the book fair will open at 11AM and DJ Chris Lima will spin. At 11:30 AM, there will be a guided tour, “Writing History”, and guided tour “Tourist Guide” will follow at 12AM.

Marcello Magdaleno will perform live in the Lapalê Tent beginning at 1PM and Monte Alegre Hot Jazz Band will perform in the square beginning at 2PM. There will be storytelling for children beginning at 2:30 PM in the Lapalê Tent and FALAPA debates will follow at 3PM. There will be an additional “Writing History” tour at 3PM.

On Sunday, May 8th, the festival once again will open with the Junta Local at 10AM and the opening of the Book Fair at 11AM.

At 11PM, instrumentalists will present “Quarteto Já te digo”. The show includes the musicians’ reinterpretations of classic sambas and choros by Cartola, Noel Rosa, Jacob do Bandolim, and Altamiro Carrilho. Following that show, DJ Playlost will spin beginning at 12PM.

Another session of storytelling for children will take place in the Lapalê Tent beginning at 2:30 PM and the FALAPA debates will return at 3PM. Finally at 5:30 PM, there will be a tribute to Lefê Almeida to close out the festival.
