Interdiction Notices for Fuel Outlets in Brazil Grow 62 Percent in First Semester of 2019

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The inspections of the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) resulted in 526 interdiction notices to establishments that work with the sale and distribution of fuel throughout the country.

According to data released by ANP on September 12th, the interdictions increased by 62 percent compared to the first half of 2018 (324).

According to the ANP, the main reasons for the bans in the first half of this year were for filling the vehicle with less fuel than that reported at the pump, the so-called “low pump”, which accounted for 40 percent of the cases, and the failure to meet safety standards (27 percent).

There were also product quality problems (14 percent), operating without authorization (12 percent), and having equipment not in compliance with the laws (3 percent), among others.

In the first half of this year, the ANP carried out 9,061 inspection actions, which, in addition to the interdictions, resulted in 1,654 infraction notices, 32 percent less than in the first half of last year (2,439).

The main irregularities found were the failure to comply with ANP’s notification (21 percent), having equipment not in compliance with legislation (13 percent), marketing or storing products not in compliance with specifications (13 percent), and the so-called “low pump” (12 percent).
