Inflation in Chile slowed down, and the CPI pierced 10% year-on-year in April

April inflation in Chile was 0.3% month-on-month and stood at 9.9% year-on-year.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) pierced double digits after twelve consecutive months above 10%.
Chile accumulated inflation in 2023 is 2.1%.
This is positive news, below the median of consultancies (0.4% monthly) in the latest survey of the Central Bank of Chile (BCCh).
In April 2023, the Consumer Price Index registered a monthly variation of 0.3%, accumulating an increase of 2.1% in April and 9.9% in twelve months.
Highlights included increases in health and transportation.
WHAT HAPPENED IN EACH SECTOR?
The April CPI showed that the largest increases were in the following sectors:
- Health: 1.5%.
- Alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 0.9%.
- Transportation: 0.8%.
Some items closed the month with falling prices:
- Recreation and culture: -1.7%.
- Communications: -0,2%
Meanwhile, Food and non-alcoholic beverages, the most important item within the CPI, closed with no variation at 0%.
