Ibovespa Extends Record Streak As Dollar Eases And Rates Bets Soften

Brazil’s stock market notched an 11th straight record and a 14th day of gains, propelled by global risk appetite and a softer dollar that eased pressure on local rates.

The Ibovespa closed at 155,257 (+0.77%) with turnover around R$22.5 billion, while the real firmed to roughly 5.30 per dollar. Petrobras and Vale advanced alongside stronger oil and steady iron-ore sentiment, helping the index hold its lead over most emerging peers.

Investors leaned into equities ahead of October inflation data and the minutes from the central bank’s latest meeting. Policymakers kept the Selic at 15% for a third time, and the market’s baseline inflation view for 2025 remains near the mid-4% range.

Hints of U.S. progress on ending a government shutdown further improved risk tone in late trade, lifting Wall Street and Europe and feeding through to Brazil’s open.

Corporate news added fuel. Raízen rose after agreeing to sell the Continental sugar-energy mill in São Paulo state for R$750 million, a portfolio tidying that investors read as discipline on capital allocation. Retail rallied on the pullback in long-dated DI rates and selective earnings beats.

Top 5 Winners (Ibovespa):

  • Lojas Renner (LREN3): led advances on lower rate expectations and a resilient quarter.
  • Raízen (RAIZ4): climbed on the Continental mill sale, seen as balance-sheet friendly.
  • Magazine Luiza (MGLU3): benefited from rate-sensitive retail momentum.
  • Localiza (RENT3): tracked cyclical optimism and steady fleet utilization.
  • Raia Drogasil (RADL3): gained on defensive growth and stable margins.

Top 5 Losers (Ibovespa):

  • Azzas 2154 (AZZA3): lagged retail peers amid stock-specific selling.
  • Suzano (SUZB3): extended losses after a softer third quarter and a weaker dollar that pressures pulp exporters.
  • Usiminas (USIM5): eased with metals names after recent strength.
  • Natura (NATU3): saw profit-taking post-results.
  • Rede D’Or (RDOR3): dipped as investors rotated toward cyclicals.

Technically, the Ibovespa is perched at the upper Bollinger band on both daily and 4-hour charts, with RSI in the 80s—momentum strong but stretched.

The prevailing trend remains higher, yet the setup favors a pause or shallow pullback toward the 151–153k area before bulls try to extend the move. For now, firmer fiscal signals and market-friendly micro stories are keeping buyers in control.
