Holes in Sidewalks Aggrieve Pedestrians in São Paulo

SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL – A survey by “Rede Nossa São Paulo” released on Tuesday, August 6th, states that most pedestrians in the state’s capital mainly complain about the holes in sidewalks.

The survey, conducted with 800 people between April 3rd and 23rd, also points out that São Paulo residents walk, on average, only 15 minutes a day.

The majority of hole-related complaints came from residents of the North, West and South zones. The second-largest source of complaints is the issue of uneven sidewalks, followed by narrow sidewalks. In the East and Center, the biggest grievance is due to uneven sidewalks.

The survey also shows that 74 percent of those interviewed have already fallen or have seen someone fall throughout the city.

In a note, the City Hall reported that the project to standardize sidewalks, launched in April, is under review and is part of the 2020 target plan.
