Grenada votes on 5 November, and the opposition New National Party (NNP) is pushing its ‘Better Grenada’ campaign into the final two weeks. Leader Emmalin Pierre told supporters to focus on defeating Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), and our Grenada election updates follow the race daily.

Campaign Enters Its Final Stretch

Pierre is the first woman to lead the NNP into a general election. She succeeded former prime minister Keith Mitchell, who stepped down as party leader in 2024.

Policy Platform and Reaction

Pierre’s platform cuts corporate tax from 28% to 25% and gives free transport to students who need help. It also expands night and weekend bus services.

Prime Minister Mitchell expects the NDC to win and rejects talk of a hung parliament. “While anything is possible, I don’t think we will have a hung parliament at all,” he said, adding that eight seats, not all 15, decide who governs.

How the Vote Works

Election day is Thursday, 5 November, with polls open 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time (5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern). Police officers vote early on 2 November.

All 15 single-member House seats are contested across Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Parliament was dissolved on 2 October, and voter registration closed the same day.

A Three-Party Contest

The NDC seeks a second consecutive term under Mitchell, an attorney. The Democratic People’s Movement, led by former foreign affairs minister Peter David, is also expected to contest seats.

In the 23 June 2022 election the NDC won nine seats and the NNP won six. The NNP won all 15 seats in 1999, 2013 and 2018.

What It Means for US Readers

Grenada is a Caribbean democracy of about 120,000 people, and this vote tests whether the NDC can keep its nine-seat majority. The result will shape tax, energy and public-service policy on the island.

The election comes almost a year before the constitutional deadline in October 2027.

What Is Not Known

No named-institute poll and no active prediction market on the Grenada vote were found, so there is no percentage forecast to publish. The final certified candidate list is not yet fully reported, and it is unclear how many seats the Democratic People’s Movement will seriously contest.

A High Court claim on the electoral process is pending, and the attorney general’s office says it is being handled. No separate time for the official results announcement has been reported.
