Gávea Wine Jazz Festival Comes to Planetário do Rio Today

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Friday, September 7th, the Planetário do Rio (Rio Planetarium) will be the location of the WineHaus 2018 Gávea Wine Jazz Festival, featuring wine, food, live jazz, samba and much more.

The natural combination of wine and jazz sets the mood for the festival, which will begin on Friday at 3PM but won’t end until 2AM the next morning. The Gávea Wine Jazz Festival will be a celebration of the refined things in life, with an eclectic musical program, inspired by the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

There will be four areas for guests to imbibe both the wines on offer and enjoy some excellent music. Within the Planetarium there will be the Piano Bar, run by Rafael Direito, who will have tribute DJ sets to musical giants such as Nina Simone, Miles Davis and even a special ‘Tarantino Disco’ featuring tracks from the cult director’s movies.

The parking area near PUC-Rio will be transformed into a mix of picnic area and biergarten, and will also host the Wine & Jazz Stage, hosted by Jazz Ahead. DJ Just Mike will kick things off at 3PM with a varied set of upbeat music.

At 7PM it’ll be the turn of Gustavo MM to take over the decks. Then at 9PM the rocking Quinteto Nuclear will treat the crowd to a live set of upbeat jazz. At around 10:30PM DJ Mary Lou will take over the reigns, passing them onto DJ Nepal at half-past midnight, who will then play until closing.

In the Wine Garden area, from 5:45PM guests will be able to enjoy a show from the ‘Orquestra de Roda’ (Orchestra of the Samba Circle), featuring samba by musicians Mosquito & Maurício Pessoa. After their performance, at 7:45PM DJ Christian K will fill the garden with the sound of hip hop and r’n’b.

Finally, on the Wine Terrace, there will be the ‘Casa do Samba de Santa Clara’ (House of Samba of Santa Clara) accompanied by DJ Rapha Lima. The theme for their show will be ‘Jorge Ben Jazz.’

For those foodies out there, there will be a pizzeria, a premium meat restaurant run by Leblon’s Sabor D.O.C. and a Japanese restaurant as well. There will also be plenty of artisanal beers, both in bottle and ‘chopp’ (draft) form, as well as a vast selection of wines.

Plus, if the weather is good, participants of the Gávea Wine Jazz Festival will also have exclusive access to the Planetarium telescopes, where they will be able to observe the night sky above.

This is a fun day out for those who are already missing the Wine and Food Festival that took place last month, or for those who caught some of the great jazz at Rio das Ostras Jazz and Blues Festival in June.
