Junge Deutsche Philharmonie to Perform at Rio’s Municipal Theater

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – This Monday, September 10th, the Teatro Municipal (Municipal Theater) will once again be graced by some world-class German classical music when the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie arrive to play an evening of Brahms and Mahler.

The Junge Deutsche Philharmonie was founded in Frankfurt in 1974, with a policy since its earliest days of seeking to attract the most promising young musicians from within the main musical conservatories in Germany.

Since 2014 they have been conducted by the British conductor Jonathan Nott, who also serves as artistic adviser. The orchestra distinguishes itself through its freshness, enthusiasm and the professionalism with which it gives all of its concerts, putting the quality of their musical output way up with the best of the adult philharmonic orchestras.

The consistently high-quality of the musicianship has meant that several of their alumni have gone on to take up leading roles in major orchestras around the world. In addition, the example of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie has inspired the emergence of new orchestras such as the Ensemble Modern (in Berlin), the Baroque Orchestra of Freiburg and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.

Tonight they will be playing Brahms’s Symphony No. 4 in E minor, op. 98 followed by Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in D major (also known as the ‘Titan’ symphony).

Like the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra’s appearance last week, this concert is part of the of the the O Globo – Dell’Arte International Concerts Series. For those who saw last week’s performance, or perhaps enjoyed the recent Rio International Cello Encounter, this promises to be an exciting evening of classical music.
