RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Ferreira warns that should the tariff be lowered, its carrier, Brazil, will benefit 85%, in reference to the renegotiation of Annex C of the Itaipu Treaty.

“The financial situation will prevent this benefit from reaching us. If the tariff is lowered, the next government will have to negotiate based on that,” Ferreira said. Due to the neighboring country and partner’s actions, ANDE’s former head believes that there is virtually nothing to negotiate with Brazil, which is why he fears that Paraguay could be given “a Trojan horse.”

SUPPLYING THE BRAZILIAN MARKET

Ferreira suggested a potential alternative, namely Paraguay’s access to the Brazilian market, which will not be easy to achieve given that the reduction has already been granted to distributors.
