Engie Brasil Energia Reports Strong Q4 2024 Results Amid Strategic Adjustments

Engie Brasil Energia (EGIE3) delivered a robust financial performance in Q4 2024, showcasing resilience and strategic focus despite market challenges.

The company reported an adjusted net income of R$1.060 billion ($177 million) for the quarter, a significant 29.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Unadjusted net income rose 15.0%, reaching R$1.090 billion ($182 million).

The company’s adjusted EBITDA for Q4 2024 totaled R$1.934 billion ($322 million), up 18.1% year-over-year, while unadjusted EBITDA climbed 9.4% to R$1.973 billion ($329 million). Net revenue surged by 20.7% to R$3.271 billion ($545 million), reflecting strong operational performance and effective cost management.

For the full year, Engie Brasil reported an adjusted net income of R$3.372 billion ($562 million), a slight decline of 1.4% compared to 2023. However, unadjusted net income soared by 25.5%, reaching R$4.303 billion ($717 million).

Full-year adjusted EBITDA grew modestly by 1.3% to R$7.367 billion ($1,228 million), while unadjusted EBITDA jumped 20.2%, totaling R$8.754 billion ($1,459 million). Annual net revenue increased by 4.4%, amounting to R$11.219 billion ($1,870 million).

CEO Eduardo Sattamini attributed the results to the company’s strategic adjustments, including the divestment of its stake in Transportadora Associada de Gás (TAG), completed in early 2024.

He noted that without this non-recurring effect, adjusted EBITDA and net income would have shown stable growth of 1.3% and a minor decline of 1.4%, respectively.

Balancing Growth & Debt in Energy Transition

Despite these achievements, Engie Brasil’s net debt rose sharply by 31.2% year-over-year, closing at R$20.126 billion ($3,354 million) at the end of 2024. The increase reflects investments in renewable energy projects and infrastructure expansions.

Operationally, Engie Brasil made significant strides in renewable energy development, with early operations at the Serra do Assuruá Wind Complex (74% completion) and Assú Sol Photovoltaic Complex (25% capacity under commercial operation).

These projects align with the company’s focus on clean energy solutions amid Brazil’s growing demand for sustainable power. Engie Brasil’s results mirror its parent company ENGIE Group’s global strategy of prioritizing renewables and infrastructure investments while maintaining financial discipline.

Globally, ENGIE Group reported €52.6 billion in revenue for the first nine months of 2024, driven by strong contributions from renewables and energy networks.
