Eletrobras Posts 24.5% Profit Growth in Q4 2024, Continues Financial Upswing

Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras S.A. (Eletrobras) announced Thursday a net profit of R$1.1 billion ($183 million) for the fourth quarter of 2024, marking a 24.5% increase compared to the same period last year.

The company’s financial release showed continued momentum following strong performance earlier in the year. The Brazilian electric utility giant reported net operating revenue of R$12 billion ($2 billion), growing 21.2% year-over-year.

This revenue surge stems from strategic renegotiations and operational improvements implemented since its 2022 privatization. Regulatory adjusted EBITDA reached R$5.4 billion ($900 million), jumping 90.6% from Q4 2023.

The company noted this growth reflects greater cost efficiency and process rationalization. However, after adjustments, EBITDA declined 6.4% to R$5.1 billion ($850 million).

Adjusted net income showed mixed results, falling 54.7% year-over-year to R$517 million ($86 million). This drop contrasts with previous quarterly performances, including Q3 2024 when adjusted IFRS net income surged by 588%.

Eletrobras maintains a healthy financial position with strategic debt management. The company reported a net debt/EBITDA ratio of approximately 2.5x for regulatory purposes, considered comfortable for its business model.

Eletrobras Strengthens Financial Position

The utility provider continues to strengthen its financial foundation through cost-cutting measures. Personnel, materials, services, and other expenses decreased 17% year-over-year, reflecting efficiency gains from workforce restructuring and process improvements.

Eletrobras has simultaneously increased capital expenditure, demonstrating commitment to infrastructure development. The company focuses on expanding its generation and transmission capabilities while maintaining operational excellence.

The firm has also made significant progress reducing exposure to uncontracted energy, which minimizes risk of selling power at potentially low future market prices. This strategy builds more predictable revenue streams for upcoming quarters.
