RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The recently appointed Prime Minister of Peru, Aníbal Torres, reiterated this Sunday, February 13, the coup attempts against President Pedro Castillo by some sectors of the Peruvian Congress that are being promoted.

In a press conference held in the district of Capacmarca, the high official expressed that “you are seeing that in the capital, a part of the Congress, a few congressmen, do not want to recognize the triumph of Pedro Castillo, which is your triumph. They want to ignore it”.

He added that the Executive wants to end the discrimination against the president, whom a fraction of the Congress is trying to disown after his triumph in the democratic elections of 2021. In correspondence, they request his vacancy and exert pressure to force his resignation.

“We extend our hands to them. We do not want to continue discussing these problems, but to discuss national problems, to solve the problems of the people, postponed for 200 years of republican life”, Torres said.

He also explained that peasants are reasonable people with the capacity for dialogue to expose their problems and understand others. “I am a farmer like you; it is about reaching an agreement and promoting investment to generate work, economic growth, and social development,” remarked the Prime Minister.

Torres detailed that a sector of the Parliament tries to ally with the opposition right-wing to destabilize the country; and urged them not to generate more instability.

The meeting held by these factions and the German foundation Friedrich Naumann, previously denounced for interference in the Peruvian political context, is evidence.

In this sense, Congresswoman Margot Palacios, belonging to the ruling Peru Libre party, filed a complaint about an alleged violation of the constitution against her right-wing counterpart María del Carmen Alva and other congress members such as Patricia Juárez, Hernando Guerra García, Jorge Montoya, Alejandro Muñante, Norma Yarrow, José Williams, Carlos Anderson, Lady Camones, and José Arriola; all of them with participation with the German foundation.

“They claim they are democrats, but they are not. A democrat respects the people’s will, and in that will, Pedro Castillo was elected president for five years”, stated Palacios.
