Colombia adds another 27,827 new Covid-19 infections and 595 deaths (June 16)

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Colombian health authorities reported on Wednesday that 595 people died due to the coronavirus in a day in which there were 27,827 new cases of the disease that has collapsed the country’s health systems.

Colombia now has a total of 3,829,879 infections and 97,560 deaths, figures that show that the disease is rampant in the country, which has 155,461 active cases, representing 4.05% of the total.

Of the deaths reported today, of which 541 occurred in previous days, the highest number was in Bogotá with 179, one more than on Tuesday, followed by the departments of Antioquia (65), Santander (46), Valle del Cauca (45) and Cundinamarca (41).

Bogotá continues as the main focus of the pandemic and today registered 8,431 positives, followed by Antioquia (3,644), Cundinamarca (2,397), Santander (1,970), Bolivar (1,129), Boyaca (951), Caldas (736) and Huila (530).

The areas of Colombia with the highest number of infections continue to be Bogotá (1,112,483), Antioquia (590,895), Valle del Cauca (295,773), Atlántico (282,679), Cundinamarca (196,896), Santander (164,267) and Bolívar (120,137).

Today, 110,906 samples were processed, of which 63,960 were of PCR type and 46,946 of antigens, and the country already accumulates 18.45 million tests performed.

On Tuesday, 223,907 doses of covid-19 vaccines were administered, of which 104,295 were second doses.

So far, Colombia’s health services have administered 13,390,951 covid-19 vaccines, of which 3,980,118 are second doses.

ANOTHER 538,200 VACCINES ARE ARRIVING

On the other hand, the Ministry of Health informed today that Colombia received 538,200 vaccines from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer to continue with the National Vaccination Plan against the coronavirus, which seeks to immunize 35.2 million people is, 70% of the population.

With this batch of Pfizer sera, the country completes 19,046,984 vaccines to continue with the mass immunization plan launched by the Government.

This batch of Pfizer vaccines is part of the bilateral negotiations that the Colombian Government made with this pharmaceutical company. The purchase of 15 million doses for 7.5 million people was agreed upon.

SINOVAC VACCINE RECEIVES AUTHORIZATION

Likewise, the Instituto Nacional de Vigilancia de Medicamentos y Alimentos (Invima) informed in a communiqué that it granted the Health Authorization for Emergency Use (Asue) this Wednesday to the vaccine of the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac.

This serum was being applied in the country in the National Vaccination Plan under the figure of import authorization based on the declaration of sanitary emergency by the Ministry of Health.

With the Asue, private sector companies that comply with the requirements demanded by the Ministry of Health will be able to import doses to contribute to the National Vaccination Plan.
