City and Colour to Play Live in Rio de Janeiro on March 14th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist Dallas Green will bring his solo project City and Colour to Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, March 14th. The show will take place at Sacadura 154, the new event hosting venue in Gamboa, and will mark the first live City and Colour performance in the city.

Dallas Green first rose to fame as the guitarist and vocalist for the Canadian post-hardcore band, Alexisonfire. Green was a member of the popular band from 2001 to 2012.

City and Colour initially began as a side solo project during Green’s time with Alexisonfire. From the beginning, City and Colour songs were notably different than those of the group, over time gaining an increasingly folk-influenced sound.

When asked about Alexisonfire fans’ reactions to his solo works, Green told the daily news site Nothing But Hope and Passion; “If I would think about that when I’m writing, I would lose my mind. So I just write songs that I like and hope other people like ‘em too.”

Originally uploading City and Colour songs online, Green officially released a full-length debut entitled, Sometimes, in 2005.

The album was well received and Green followed it with slightly different sounding yet still clearly a Dallas Green album, entitled, Bring Me Your Love, in 2008. During that year, he also began touring with the project.

Continuing to gain fans and garner critical acclaim, Green released the third City and Colour album entitled, Little Hell , in 2011. Later that same year Alexisonfire announced their break-up and they officially disbanded after a run of farewell shows in 2012.

Green then turned his focus solely on City and Colour and released a soul-searching fourth album, The Hurry and the Harm , in 2013.

Earlier this week, on March 9th, Alexisonfire announced, via an Instagram post, that they would reunite for several upcoming festival shows in the UK and Canada. It has not been officially confirmed that Green will perform with the band during the announced shows.

However, Green is still going strong as City and Colour. In December of last year, he released a new single entitled, “Nowhere, Texas.” Recorded during the “The Hurry and the Harm” sessions, Green waited to release it in the hopes of drawing attention to violence against women.

“I wrote the song after watching a movie, ‘Texas Killing Fields,'” Green told the Alternative Press shortly after the single’s release. “I couldn’t shake the real story of a lonely road that became the final resting place of missing women. This song tells that story – but sadly this road does not stand alone. Places like this are everywhere.”

Saturday’s show will be the first City and Colour performance in Rio and will take place thanks to the help of Rio-based crowd-sourced kickstarter Queremos, which has also helped to schedule a show with Australian musician Chet Faker at Sacadura 154 on March 19th and a performance by the UK band, Jungle at the same venue on May 14th.

During the City and Colour show, Green will be accompanied by a full band consisting of bassist Jack Lawrence, drummer Doug MacGregor, and guitarists Dante Schwebel and Matt Kelly.

Sacadura 154 doors will open at 9PM.
