Artist Marcelo Ment’s “Coragem” Exhibition Opens in Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The opening ceremony for “Coragem” (Courage), a new exhibition of works by Rio de Janeiro urban artist and graphic designer Marcelo Ment, will take place tonight at Galeria Homegrown in Ipanema from 6PM to 10PM. Following the opening, the works will remain on display in the gallery through April 11th.

Born in the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood of Nova Iguaçu and raised in the Vila da Penha neighborhood, Marcelo Ment has become well known for his urban artworks, seen on the walls and buildings throughout Rio de Janeiro and around the world, including in Wynwood in Miami, Florida.

Ment is also recognized for his fine art pieces, which have been acquired by European and North American collectors, and for his branding and design work for major companies and organizations, including the logos and branding for the 2013 Festival do Rio, Rio’s International Film Festival.

The “Coragem” exhibition takes a closer look at the approximately twenty-year span of his career to date.

“We all have fears, but if you believe in what you do and do it for love, you can get closer than just dreaming one day,” Ment said in a released statement when explaining the exhibition’s title. “I live what I dreamed and I keep dreaming and believing. Increasingly, I try to ignore my fears when I’m creating, painting and expressing myself. With this exhibition, I hope to provoke in the viewers, questions, feelings or emotions.”

The exhibition includes seven drawings and two canvas screens, with five parts in MDF in total. Following the opening ceremony, opening hours of the exhibition will be 10AM until 8PM on Mondays through Fridays and from 12PM to 6PM on Saturdays.
