Chilean President announces 36 measures for reconstruction after fires
The President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, announced yesterday Monday a battery of 36 measures with an investment of US$283 million to rebuild the areas affected by the fires that consumed more than 450,000 hectares last February in the central-southern size of the country.
“Today we are entering the reconstruction phase, not only to recover what was lost but also to be able to establish something better here in the affected area”, said the President after visiting the commune of Ninhue, in the Ñuble region, one of the areas affected by the summer fires.
The measures, he explained, are divided into five areas: habitability, psychosocial support, productive reactivation, enabling infrastructure, and territory and sustainability.

“This emergency, as I was saying, motivates us not only to recover what has been lost but also to create new opportunities because there are many opportunities in our land, and we have to know how to take advantage of them”, he added.
The president pointed out that the word “reconstruction” has been part of “our history”.
“But when we talk about burned houses, when we talk about destroyed schools, about big numbers, we have to remember that behind all that, there are people permanently; there are memories, there are memories, there are affections, and, above all, there are families who are living difficult moments”, he added.
The Chilean government stated that this plan seeks to provide security, dignity, and hope to all the people and communities affected and, secondly, to recover productive activity and promote the development of the territories.
They explained that the aim is not only to replace what has been lost but also to improve and expand opportunities and reduce the current inequality gaps.
Between January and March, forest fires affected more than 450,000 hectares in the central-southern zone, where 25 people died, and 2,332 houses were destroyed.
