Brazil’s Petrobras is the world’s largest dividend payer in Q2
Brazil’s state-owned Petrobras, the largest oil conglomerate in Latin America, is the company that paid the most dividends worldwide in the second quarter of this year: R$87.8 billion (US$17.2 billion), R$6.732 per preferred and common share.
The conclusion comes from the Global Dividend Index of Janus Henderson, a management company that manages US$299.7 billion. The study has been conducted since 2009 to analyze long-term trends in dividends.
For this quarter, 1,200 dividend payments from companies worldwide were analyzed.

The survey found quarterly dividends reached a record US$544.8 billion in the second quarter, an 11.3 percent nominal increase from a year ago.
The payment put Petrobras in first place in the rankings and was also the first time a state-owned company made the top 10. This put the company ahead of Nestlé, Rio Tinto, and Microsoft.

The most significant boost came from companies in the United States and Europe. Still, emerging markets stood out due to oil producers – dividend payouts in this region rose 22.5% year over year.
“The increasing rise in oil prices [during the period] led to a US$14 billion increase in dividends, half of which came from Petrobras in Brazil and much of the rest from Ecopetrol in Colombia,” the report said.
Dividend payments in Brazil increased 163.6%, while in Colombia, which is represented exclusively by Ecopetrol, they grew 22 times.
