Brazilian Bovespa Index in the red at the start of the week
The Ibovespa opened the week falling on Monday, Jan. 23. In yesterday’s trading session, the indicator closed quoted at around 111 thousand points (-0.3%).
Ibovespa is the main index of the Brazilian Stock Exchange (B3). Also losing value, the dollar fell 0.15%, closing at R$5.20.
In the middle of the drop this Monday, some of the main banks in the country were devalued.
Itaú’s common and preferred shares fell 3% and 2.3%, respectively. Bradesco lost 4.2% and 3.2%, in the same order. And the claims of Banco do Brasil depreciated by 0.7%.

The market also continues to be apprehensive with debts of R$43 (US$8.3) billion declared by Americanas.
Banks are among the main creditors.
The retailer owes, for example, R$4.7 billion to Bradesco and R$3.4 billion to Itaú. On Thursday, Jan. 19, the Rio de Janeiro Justice Department accepted the judicial reorganization request from the retail giant.
With the measure, no debt can be executed within 180 days.
The retailer must present a recovery proposal to the judge within two months, which the creditors must approve.
At the same time, companies linked to oil production and mining were appreciated. Petrobras rose 0.4% (preferred) and 0.6% (common).
Similarly, Vale gained 0.3% and CSN 0.7%. These papers respond to optimism about reopening the Chinese market, which may boost demand for oil and minerals.
