Brazilian Court revoked house arrest in one of Rio’s former governor’s cases
The Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF2) revoked on Wednesday (1) the house arrest concerning one of the processes faced by the former governor of Rio Sérgio Cabral.
However, the decision does not immediately benefit the politician, who continues under house arrest by another decision of the TRF2 on the process of Operation Calicute, underway in the First Specialized Section, reported Agência Brasil.
The decision of Wednesday affects the conviction of 20 years, 4 months, and 21 days of confinement in a closed regime determined by the First Specialized Panel of TRF2 in Operation Efficiency.

The vote of the rapporteur, Judge Simone Schreiber, was followed unanimously.
The First Specialized Panel considered that the reasons that justified the precautionary measure were not maintained.
The judges understood that there was an excessive period for the custody and that Cabral did not pose a risk to public order and the instruction of the process, which was already completed.
The understanding is in line with the decision made by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in December, which determined the revocation of the preventive detention of the former governor.
