Brazil: the dollar falls to R$5.10, and Ibovespa advances with fiscal framework and exterior on the radar
By Mariana d’Ávilla
The optimism around the announcement of the new fiscal framework contributed to Ibovespa’s gains on Thursday (30).
Investors are still waiting for Central Bank President Roberto Campos Neto’s speech, which may signal the next steps of the monetary authority.
According to a government source heard by Bloomberg News, the new rules foresee zeroing the primary deficit starting in 2024 and generating increasing surpluses until the end of President Lula’s term in 2026.

The expectation is that the new fiscal rules will reduce uncertainties regarding government spending and contribute to minimizing projections for inflation, which could lead to an eventual cut in the Selic rate in the next Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) meetings.
The attention will also be directed to Campos Neto’s speech on the Quarterly Inflation Report (RTI).
In the United States, investors monitor today the weekly requests for unemployment benefits, the GDP of the fourth quarter (which may show the risk of a recession), in addition to speeches of members of the Federal Reserve.
The move is for gains on Wall Street after rallying in the previous session, driven by technology companies.
This is because financial market analysts see proximity to the peak of the interest rate, contributing to companies that are more sensitive to the basic rate, such as big techs.
Check out the performance of markets on Thursday (30):
