Brazil: Salvador da Bahia airport to host direct flights to country’s southern capitals

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Run by VINCI Airports, the new routes are a testament to Salvador’s attractiveness for airlines and for the consolidation of this destination as one of Brazilians’ favorite.

Routes from Salvador to major cities in southern Brazil will be operated by GOL Linhas Aéreas, with Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães Airport – formerly Dois de Julho International Airport – (SSA) as one of its hubs.

Flights to Curitiba began on October 31, 3 times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. From January, there will be 11 weekly flights to the capital of Paraná, available also on Mondays.

Flights to Porto Alegre will always depart on Saturdays, from November 6. In January, 9 daily flights will be offered, with 2 more schedules available on Mondays and Thursdays.

The new route to Florianópolis will start operating on December 4, also on Saturdays. In January, flights to the capital of Santa Catarina will operate daily.

Azul will offer weekly flights to the city of Porto Alegre, on Sundays, in the summer. The city of Foz do Iguaçu, although it is not the capital of the state of Paraná, will also be served by Azul flights from Salvador, on Tuesdays and Fridays.

GOL and Salvador de Bahia Airport’s strategy will facilitate travel for its passengers to the over 20 destinations offered by the company, particularly for those going to Congonhas (SP), Confins (BH), Santos Dumont (Rio), Viracopos, Recife, Guarulhos and Fortaleza.

“VINCI Airports’ efforts to restart the air network resulted not only in the recovery of seats, but also in destination diversification. Our passengers have more direct flight options and some of them were not available before the pandemic, which represents a great gain for the city,” said Salvador da Bahia Airport general director Julio Ribas.
