RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Ministry of Health confirmed another 407 deaths from complications caused by the novel coronavirus. The country totals 159,884 deaths caused by Covid-19 since the first case of the disease was recorded in the country in late February this year.

In the past 24 hours, Rio Grande do Sul has confirmed another 68 deaths and 4,174 cases. However, in absolute terms, the state with the highest number of deaths since the outbreak of the disease in the country is São Paulo. In one day, the state recorded 56 deaths. This brings the total number of deaths by Covid-19 in the state to 39,311, out of a total of 1,116,127 confirmed cases of the disease.

Next come Rio de Janeiro, with 35 new deaths and a cumulative 20,600 fatalities for 309,977 cases; Ceará (16; 9,353 and 274,185, respectively); Minas Gerais ( 53; 9,015 and 358,971); Pernambuco ( 18; 8,627 and 162,893).

The states with the lowest number of deaths are Roraima (692), Acre (693); Amapá (748), Tocantins (1,097), and Rondônia (1,457).
