Uruguay’s first crypto ATM a success: over 1,000 transactions in just hours
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – In addition to crypto exchange platforms, users can perform several transactions through an ATM. While there are still relatively few of them, they are growing in number.
“We are fulfilling something that many people linked to the crypto world were asking for. Uruguay currently has over 30,000 people counting, ‘logging’ and exchanging cryptocurrencies almost every day,” said InBierto’s director and founder Adolfo Varela.
SUCCESSFUL FIRST HOURS
More than 1,000 transactions were performed in the first hours of the first ATM for cryptocurrencies installed in Uruguay, inaugurated Friday in the town of Punta del Este.
Operations exceeded the organizers’ initial expectations, which, in the words of Adolfo Varela, shows that “Uruguay has the conditions to be an international crypto ‘hub’ and can be the platform for this technology to enter Latin America.”
“This first step is being taken today of a network that is going to grow throughout the country and to develop throughout Latin America, it is key for us and for the crypto ecosystem,” inBierto’s founder said.
“It is possible to interact with a computer and, in addition, people are used to interacting with ATMs and this works in a very similar way, so people are enjoying this process, a technological revolution,” he said.
EXPANDING TO MORE CITIES
Although Punta del Este has its terminal operational in January, the company’s goal is to continue expanding to Montevideo, the rest of Uruguay and the continent.
“We believe that America is the ideal continent to implement the use of cryptocurrency blockchain technology because the currencies have their own economic policies, which are deflationary, that protect people’s money and what is achieved in a continent that knows a lot about inflation is to allow people to save and safeguard their money,” Varela added.
Finally, he stresses the “exponential growth” this issue has had in recent times in Uruguay, where people “began to talk about the subject, to be interested and to get involved.”
“We believe that a path has begun towards the future of finance, technology, information and value that I believe will transform everyone’s way of life, because everything will happen through blockchain technology,” the expert added.
