U.S. announces US$1.9 billion in private investment for Central America’s northern triangle

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris will announce US$1.9 billion in new private investment commitments for North Central America to create jobs and stem rising migration, a government official said Tuesday.

"These are new investments from about 10 companies, including textile giant GAP, telecommunications company Millicom and multinational financial firm Visa, earmarked for Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador," the official said in a conference call.

The announcement comes as the Summit of the Americas is taking place this week in Los Angeles, where the regional migration crisis is a key topic on the agenda . . .
