Tourist Attraction AquaRio Prepares to Reopen Safely on August 15th

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Closed since mid-March, AquaRio is finalizing its preparations to reopen safely on August 15th. The required changes have been made so that visitors may be completely safe, respecting the social distancing measures the pandemic calls for.

Precautions are taken upon entering, which will be exclusively through Olympic Boulevard. There will be a screening point at the entrance for measuring body temperature and sanitizing footwear on mats. The wearing of masks during the stay is mandatory, but this does not in any way compromise the experience of enjoying marine life and the over five thousand animals that live in more than 20 tanks included in the tour.

Elevators will be accessible only to people with disabilities and reduced mobility. Access to the third floor, where the tour begins, will be made through the ramp; posters indicating the care required for safe visitation will be displayed along the length of the tour. More than 50 pedal-powered hand sanitizer dispensers and four hygiene stations will be available on the route, which has been marked to prevent crowds. Exit will be exclusively onto the Via Binário road.

AquaRio will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM, with the last visitor allowed to enter the building at 4 PM. On Wednesdays, the venue will be closed for sanitization measures.

Tickets can be purchased at: www.aquariomarinhodorio.com.br, for visits by appointment. The QR Code on a cell phone will grant visitors’ access to the tour. The ticket offices operate only for cash payments. Card transactions must be made in self-service stations, located in the lobby.

AquaRio’s reopening is part of the city’s approach to reopen only tourist attractions that have adopted unified sanitary protocols, ensuring tranquility and safety to all employees and visitors. This initiative includes official shuttles to Christ the Redeemer statute on Corcovado, the Paineiras Visitor Center, the Corcovado Train, the Sugar Loaf Cable Car and the Rio Star Ferris wheel.
