Parallel dollar reaches a new record of 400 pesos in Argentina

The parallel dollar, known by Argentines as the blue dollar, reached a quotation of 400 Argentine pesos for the first time.

This is a record high in the context of an inflationary escalation that has been happening for several years in the South American country.

According to Argentine media, the quotation of $400 was surpassed in the afternoon of Thursday (13) after the blue dollar increased by $2 since it started the day with a quotation of $398.

The increase triggered questions to the Government of Alberto Fernández by the opposition, already deploying its strategy for the general elections.

Scheduled for the second semester of 2023, the elections will renew the leadership of the Casa Rosada, the headquarters of the Argentine executive power.

“Dollar at 400! This is a huge problem in the pockets of Argentines every day.”

“The most serious thing is that we do not know what will happen tomorrow because there is no plan.”

“Nobody knows where this government that keeps applying patch after patch wants to take the Argentines”, tweeted the head of the Government of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta.

The also opposing Roberto García Moritán, a legislator of the Argentine capital, took the opportunity to recall that he had “anticipated” that the parallel dollar would reach that figure in July 2021, when the parallel exchange rate was quoted at $296.

Although one of the special rates, the tourist dollar, had reached that figure in February, this is the first time that the US dollar rate available in Argentine streets exceeds that barrier.
