RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Professor and pastor Milton Ribeiro accepted Jair Bolsonaro’s invitation to head the MEC (Ministry of Education). The news was confirmed by a Minister close to the President and disclosed by Bolsonaro on his social media.
He reaches the Ministry well regarded among evangelicals and had been shortlisted for the post even before Weintraub took over. The position has been vacant since June 18th.
His name was made official minutes after Bolsonaro’s post, in a special issue of the Federal Gazette, published on Friday, July 10th.
A Presbyterian pastor, Ribeiro is a member of the Public Ethics Committee, linked to the Presidency. He was appointed to the position by Bolsonaro in May 2019. His mandate in the committee runs until 2022.
In his Lattes academic résumé, last updated in April 2019, Ribeiro reports having degrees in Theology and Law. He also claims to have a Master’s degree in Law from Mackenzie Presbyterian University and a Ph.D. in Education from USP (University of São Paulo).
In addition, he says he is specialized in the Old Testament by the Andrew Jumper Theological Center, in Old Testament Theology by Mackenzie, in University Management by CRUB (Council of Deans of Brazilian Universities) and in Real Estate Law by FMU (United Metropolitan College).
A member of the deliberative council of Mackenzie University’s administration, Ribeiro has also served as acting dean and vice-dean of the university.
