Brazilian “Real Digital”: pilot test successfully completed
Pilot testing of the digital currency of the Brazilian central bank has been successfully completed, according to the companies that conducted the tests.
According to local press reports, the test was conducted with the “Real Digital” on the Stellar payment platform, which enables the issuance and management of virtual assets, wallets, and keys.
Stellar is a technology company dedicated to developing decentralized platforms that enable the transfer of digital currencies.

The testing of Real Digital, developed by Bitcoin Market, simulated delivery versus payment (DvP) transactions, in which the transfer of value is not executed until payment is made.
A Real Digital prototype enabled real-time token payments and asset settlements in the operations.
The transactions were controlled and allowed the traceability of the parties’ assets, addresses, keys, and identities, as required by the Brazilian Central Bank.
Real Digital’s pilot tests involved Mercado Bitcoin and Stellar, protection services company ClearSale, the Center for Research and Development in Telecommunications (CPQD), and software design and engineering company Cheesecake Labs.
According to Fulvio Xavier, Bitcoin Market’s special projects manager, the tests have shown that it is possible, feasible, and secure to “trade digital assets with a representation of the Brazilian real on public networks.”
According to him, the tests have shown that the link between the Brazilian payment system and decentralized financial services (DeFi) is feasible. Roberto Durscki, director of partnerships at Stellar, said the company is a gateway for Brazilian authorities to test regulatory controls of “Real Digital on an open platform.”
The Real Digital is based on the Ethereum network blockchain, and the central bank money is issued in two versions for retail and wholesale use.
The completed tests were conducted at all stages of transactions.
That is, from registration and verification of information to the know-your-customer (KYC) protocol, which requires users to provide their personal information to be fully identified by a company.
Once the tests are completed, the results are expected to allow the Brazilian Central Bank to take the necessary measures for the final development and issuance of the digital real, which is planned for 2024.
