Brazil: Number of rapes of LGBTQIA+ people grew 88% in 2021

In absolute numbers, the registration of rapes increased from 95 notifications in 2020 to 179 last year. However, the actual number of cases should be even higher because only the information provided by the state public safety departments and the police was computed.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - Rape crimes against the LGBTQIA+ population grew 88.4% between 2020 and 2021, revealed the Brazilian Yearbook of Public Security on June 28, a document prepared by the Brazilian Forum on Public Security.
