Brazil: government announces end of daily disclosure of data on covid

The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva announced that it will suspend the daily release of data on covid-19.

According to the Ministry of Health, the disease figures will be updated only weekly. The change takes effect on March 3.

The ministry announced the change in the rules during the 2nd Regular Meeting of the Tripartite Interagency Commission (CIT).

According to the ministry, entities such as the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) and the National Council of Municipal Health Secretaries (Conasems) signed the agreement.

“There is no longer a reason for daily notification,” said Jurandi Frutuoso, executive secretary of Conass.

According to the report, the change in the frequency is intended to “optimize” the work of the surveillance teams of the municipalities, the states, and the ministry itself.

According to the ministry, only nine states update the data daily.

Another 18 states do not report cases and deaths caused by the disease on weekends.

Of these, three report the information once a week.

However, the ministry did not specify which states are underreporting the information.

To make the national bulletin, the ministry depends on data from the states and the Federal District, which supply two systems: Sivep-Gripe and eSUS Notifica.

“The daily data do not allow epidemiological analysis, as requested by society and the control bodies,” justified the folder.
