Brazil expects to produce 7.7 billion barrels of oil in the pre-salt area between 2023 and 2032
Brazil may reach a production of 7.7 billion barrels of crude oil in the pre-salt area in the period 2023-2032, sources from the sector announced today, Tuesday, at the fifth edition of the Pre-Salt Oil Technical Forum.
The president of the state-owned Pre-Salt Petroleum (PPSA), Eduardo Gerk, said that the figures are based on the 19 contracts already managed by this company linked to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, in addition to the Bacalhau and Tapi fields, which are close to coming into operation, and that 80 percent of the volume comes from fields that already have a declaration of commerciality.

“We will have an impressive increase in oil well production, starting in 2023 with around 800,000 barrels per day and reaching around 3 million barrels per day between 2029 and 2030,” said Gerk, who explained that Brazil will have an average production of 5.4 million barrels per day in 2029, more than half coming from the pre-salt.
According to PPSA, some 1.9 billion barrels of the expected production in the pre-salt between 2023 and 2032 will be for the Brazilian government due to the regime-sharing contracts in the region.
The pre-salt area, located in deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean, under an extensive layer of salt that can reach up to 2,000 meters, is the great horizon of Brazilian oil, with huge reserves that are now beginning to be explored and exploited.
The pre-salt polygon extends from the northern coast of the state of Santa Catarina (south) to the south of Espírito Santo (southeast), with an exploratory area of 149,000 square kilometers, at a depth of up to 7,000 meters.
