Brazil elections 2022: Bolsonaro has 49% among evangelicals; Lula, 50% among Catholics

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – A PoderData survey conducted from June 5 to 7 shows that Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party – PL) leads and has 49% of voting intentions among evangelical voters for the first round of the 2022 elections. In this segment, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party – PT) has 26%.

The distance between the two pre-candidates in this specific group is 23 percentage points. In the round held from May 22 to 24, it was 13 p.p.

Among Catholics, the scenario is reversed, and Lula da Silva comes out ahead, with 50% of intentions. In this religious segment, Bolsonaro has 30%. It is the first survey without the name João Doria (PSDB), who withdrew his pre-candidacy for the Presidential race 15 days ago.

According to PoderData, the Brazilian electorate comprises 40% Catholics and 35% Evangelicals.

The survey was carried out by PoderData, a company of the Poder360 Jornalismo group. The data were collected through calls to cell phones and landlines.

There were 3,000 interviews in 309 cities in the 27 states of the Federation. The margin of error is two percentage points. The confidence interval is 95%. TSE Registration: BR-01975/2022.
