Brazil: Consultancy increases corn production estimate

AgResource Brazil, a subsidiary of the North American AgResource Company, has revised its estimate for corn production for the 21/22 cycle in Brazil.

The revision occurred with an increase in the area, mainly in the state of Mato Grosso, which already presents the harvest practically finished at 98%.

Thus, there was an increase in the area of second-crop corn in Brazil from 16.21 to 16.87 million hectares.

“This increase was necessary because there was a significant increase in the area planted with soy in the state and, therefore, impacted the cereal area for the second crop”. Affirms João Pedro Thieme, the company’s analyst.

With the good progress of the harvest, which already reached 70.5% according to the estimates of the consulting company, other production adjustments were made, such as, for instance, in Paraná state.

That is due to the problems with frost (milder than the last cycle), leafhoppers, and delays in the crop cycle that harmed the yields observed in the field.

However, as the gains observed in the increase of the area more than offset the drop in productivity, these should result in a total corn harvest of 113.32 million tons, an increase of 2.34% compared to the previous estimate.

As for soybeans, there were minor adjustments in productivity in some states, which should total 123.04 million tons in a sown area of 41.53 million hectares.
