Brazil: Cataratas Hotel is elected the best in South America
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The Cataratas hotel is the only hotel development inside the Iguaçu National Park. From the windows of some of the luxurious suites, it is possible to see the sumptuous waterfalls that are a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
The exclusive experiences provided to guests who visit the place managed by Belmond, the same group as the iconic Copacabana Palace, made the Cataratas be elected as the best hotel in South America by Forbes Travel Guide.
It is the fifth time that the Forbes guide, considered a relevant evaluator of luxury tourism, has elected the Cataratas hotel as the best in the region. With the maximum rating of five stars and a score of 92.55 – the highest score since the hotel entered the 5-star category – the hotel remains the first and only one in Brazil and South America to hold the title.

“We feel very honored to be recognized once again by the guide. The intuitive and genuine attention to every detail from every member of our team, coupled with the stunning scenery of the Iguaçu Falls, create unforgettable memories for our guests,” says Cataratas general manager Andrea Emmerling.
Installed under concession in a historic building that is a federal heritage site, the hotel is just a few meters from the access to the Iguaçu Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
Since the year 2000, the Cataratas has been ISO 14001 certified for environmental management, reinforcing its commitment to preserving the environment and rare species of Brazilian fauna, such as the puma and the giant anteater.
The hotel also uses renewable energy sources, uses water and oil, and only uses biodegradable cleaning products. Once a year, the team organizes an Environmental Task Force, where more than 2,000 kg of garbage is removed from the forest of the Iguaçu National Park.
The Forbes Travel Guide is a global reference in luxury hospitality and is already in its 63rd edition. The team of professional inspectors travels the world anonymously to evaluate hotels, restaurants, and spas based on 900 objective standards that determine the categories: five-star, four-star, and recommended.
In addition to the facilities, the star rating system evaluates the overall experience, including the quality of service and the ability to provide the guest with a warm welcome, a good feeling, and unforgettable moments.
