Brazil’s Iguaçu Falls Celebrated 8th Year Among the Seven Wonders of Nature

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – To celebrate the date, the Iguaçu National Park invited all visitors to Iguaçu Falls (Iguazú in Spanish) to publish selfies on social media with the hashtag #cataratasday2019.

According to the secretary of Tourism of Foz do Iguaçu (PR), Gilmar Piolla, the initiative is a very important tool for promoting the tourist destination.

For the couple Milena and Luis Henrique Ferroni, who visited the Iguazu Falls for the first time last Thursday, November 7th, the incentive to join results from the beauty of the place. “I’ve already posted some photos, but with that incredible landscape, there are many other angles to show. This is a place you never tire of looking at and being surprised”, says Milena.

The couple’s vacation destination was motivated by photos of other people they know. “My sister came in June and took a picture of the waterfalls with a rainbow. We were not so lucky, but that’s just another motive to come back at different times of the year,” says Milena.

The 275 waterfalls of different heights, which can exceed 80 meters, attract so many visitors that the Iguaçu National Park is the second most visited in Brazil. In 2018, the site welcomed approximately two million visitors on the Brazilian side, and 1.5 million on the Argentinian side.

The reflection of the beautiful images recorded in the memory of visitors and the photographs widely disseminated around the world led to the selection of Iguaçu Falls (Iguazú in Spanish) as one of the Seven Wonders of Nature, in a global vote that spanned four years (2007 to 2011) and garnered more than 500 million votes.

The Amazon

In addition to the Falls, the Amazon, with part of its territory in Brazil, is also among the seven places with breathtaking landscapes. Completing the list are the Halong Bay, in Vietnam; Jeju Island, in South Korea; Komodo Island, in Indonesia; the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River, in the Philippines; and Table Mountain, in South Africa.

Waterfalls Day

In Brazil, Waterfalls Day began to be celebrated in 2014 and in this 5th edition, as well as the publicity campaign, the Park provided 60 buses and free admission for residents of Foz do Iguaçu and municipalities in the region. There was also a cycling tour that departed from the parking lot of the Visitor’s Reception Center at 7 AM.

“Last year we welcomed approximately 10,000 visitors on the day, not to mention the photo and video posts of this experience in all corners of the world. This year we expect to welcome some 15,000 people,” concludes Gilmar Piolla.
