Brazil and China announce diversification of agribusiness trade agenda

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – Representatives of Brazil and China announced significant progress in the agribusiness trade agenda, translating into an expansion and diversification of business between the parties.

This information, expected by Broadcast Agro, was announced in a joint statement issued by the Ministries of Agriculture and Foreign Affairs on Monday evening, June 23, at the 6th Brazil-China Agricultural Trade Conference.

According to the joint statement, during the meeting, the parties announced the conclusion of negotiations on the start of Brazilian exports of corn and peanuts to China, as well as the intention to sign protocols on Brazilian exports of soybean meal, concentrated soy protein, citrus pulp, and fetal bovine serum at the next meeting of the Subcommittee on Inspection and Quarantine, which will be held at a date to be determined between June 21 and 24, 2022.

Brazilian beef exports to China, which had been temporarily suspended following atypical cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (“mad cow disease”) in Brazil, were also resumed. Licensing Brazilian establishments to export dairy and meat products also continued.

Four protocols were signed to export cotton bran, thermally processed beef, and melons from Brazil to China and export pears from China to Brazil.

Inspection visits were also completed to support Brazilian exports of soybean meal, soy protein concentrate, poultry and eggs, and bovine blood serum to China. Regarding Chinese exports, audits were conducted at plants producing natural casings for export to Brazil.

The parties also agreed to seek to complete negotiations on Brazilian exports of sesame, sorghum, and grapes by the end of 2022 and prioritize negotiations on the approval of Brazilian exports of fishmeal, poultry, and pork and Chinese exports of apples to Brazil.
