Bolsonarists Block Access to Hospitals, Call for End to Quarantine in São Paulo

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – The motorcade promoted by Bolsonarists against the governor of São Paulo, João Doria, decided on a honking parade. then stopped traffic right outside the Clínicas Hospital (HC) of the Medical School of USP (University of São Paulo), in the capital city.

Videos published by the President’s supporters show people getting out of their cars and making great noise as they walk past the blocks of Rebouças Avenue that comprise the Hospital’s buildings. The Emílio Ribas Infectology Institute is located in the same area.

Last week, the HC set up a mega-operation to relocate patients and vacate 900 beds, so as to attend exclusively the demand caused by the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Emílio Ribas, a benchmark in immunology in Brazil, already has 100 percent of its beds occupied with Covid-19 patients.

Barros’ account is followed by Rio city councilor Carlos Bolsonaro and has published several posts with the two hashtags.
