Rio Writer MixUp: Bloggers’ Edition on April 24th: Daily

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL — The Rio Times will be hosting the next edition of the Rio Writer MixUp events, this one focused on blogging, at the Gringo Café in Ipanema on Thursday, April 24th from 7-11PM. Special co-Hosts for this event will be Julia Michaels of Rio Real Blog, Tom Le Mesurier of Eat Rio Blog and Rachel Glickhouse of Rio Gringa Blog.

A chance to mingle with those in the writing scene, the event will also provide a meeting point for different kinds of writers and aspiring writers living and working in Rio de Janeiro. Guests include journalists, authors and screenwriters, as well as anyone who just wants to come and enjoy the music and hang out.

Julia Michaels, blogger at Rio Real Blog and author of the book, “Solteira no Rio de Janeiro,” (“Single in Rio de Janeiro”) is a featured guest and long-time Rio resident and member of the expatriate community who has participated in the past writer events. “I admire The Rio Times very much for what they do and I adore hanging out with hacks, drinking Stellas and eating one of the Gringo Cafe’s delicious club sandwiches!” Michaels shares.

Rachel Glickhouse of the popular blog Rio Gringa has recently returned to New York but continues her writing about Brazil. “It just so happened that I was planning to be go to Rio when the event was scheduled, so it was great timing! Even though I don’t live in Rio anymore, I still try to stay plugged in to what’s happening in the city and the people who are covering the news here, so I’m really excited to be able to meet some people who I know through the grapevine or through the internet but have never met in real life,” she affirms.

Tom Le Mesurier of Eat Rio Blog tells The Rio Times, “Writing Eat Rio has changed my life in several fundamental ways. Firstly, the blog has pushed me to find out more about Rio and Brazil in general. […] On a more day-to-day level, the blog has changed my entire career path. I have been working as an IT Analyst and Project Manager for the past twelve years, but at the beginning of April I decided to take a risk and try to make a living out of my writing and related projects.”

As far as the event on Thursday, he adds, “I think events like the Rio Writer MixUp are a great way for meeting up with like-minded people, networking, swapping ideas and experiences and also just good old socializing! Since I came to Rio in 2010, it’s been clear to me networking is a vital part of getting things done in this city.”

“These events have been a lot of fun. It’s not just for writers, but having that focus really brings an interesting crowd together for some good chat,” explains Stone Korshak, editor and publisher of The Rio Times. “This time we also have Tee Cardaci (of Botafogo Social Club) DJing, which is always great, and Sam [owner of the Gringo Café] is a perfect host, offing generous drink and food promotions. [I am] very much looking forward to it.”
