Blockchain comes to Colombia with certification of land titles

The Colombian government has begun officially issuing land titles that are tokenized or based on the public blockchain of “Ripple Labs.”

It is part of an initiative to streamline processes within the South American nation through this technology.

The tool is called “Administrador de Predios” and is operated by the National Land Agency “Agencia Nacional de Tierras”.

This government platform allows the registration and certification of land allocations in a verifiable way.

There, Colombian citizens who own land can register their data and all documents certifying their ownership and have them certified on the blockchain.

According to “Peersyst Technology,” a company that worked with “Ripple Labs” to integrate and implement blockchain, with the new platform, there is “no room for forgeries,” and the authenticity of documents certifying ownership of land can be verified, according to an audiovisual.

In addition, the Colombian government has launched the so-called “Explorador de Predios” (Land Explorer). There, citizens can ensure that their land has been registered and prove this to a third party.

All this can be done by scanning a QR code that provides all the information requested.

This initiative comes at the end of Iván Duque’s presidency, so it is unknown if this open-door policy for blockchains will continue after President-elect Gustavo Petro takes office on August 7.
