Barra da Tijuca Records More Coronavirus Cases Than 57 Municipalities in Rio State

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – According to data from the Municipal Health Secretariat, the upscale district of Barra da Tijuca, in the city’s West Zone, is home to more Covid-19 cases than any other district or municipality in the State of Rio, except for the capital itself.

The figure is higher than the confirmed cases in the state of Rio de Janeiro’s 57 municipalities.

The city of Rio records 1,905 confirmed cases, followed by Niterói, a metropolitan region, with 120 infections.

Below are the municipalities with the most confirmed cases; all save Petrópolis and Volta Redonda are within the metropolitan Rio de Janeiro area:

Rio’s Copacabana district (115), in the South Zone, records five fewer cases than Niterói, the municipality with the second most confirmed Covid-19 cases.

The third city on the list through Saturday, Nova Iguaçu, in the outlying Baixada Fluminense, with 73 cases, has fewer infected patients than Leblon and Ipanema, with 94 and 76 confirmed cases, respectively.
