“The epicenter of the epidemic is moving from Europe to the Americas, which has given us time to prepare for what is to come,” said Cristian Morales, WHO and PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) representative in Mexico, during an online press conference.

“What is not as positive and that we cannot forget is that we are about to experience the worst moment of the epidemic in the region and in Mexico,” he added.

Morales recommended that countries increase their virus detection capacity at national and local levels, in addition to maintaining social distancing.

By Wednesday, Latin America reported 114,729 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 5,731 deaths.
