Who Vicente García Is and Why This Show Matters

Vicente García is a Dominican singer-songwriter who blends Afro-Dominican folk music with reggae, son, bachata and merengue. El Día wrote in 2019 that he began as a vocalist and songwriter in the Dominican rock band Calor Urbano.

He won three Latin Grammy Awards at the 18th ceremony in 2017: Best New Artist, Best Singer-Songwriter Album and Best Tropical Song. The Recording Academy credits his album A La Mar and the song “Bachata En Kingston” for the last two.

His own website lists six albums, among them Melodrama, A La Mar and Candela. El Día noted in 2019 that Candela and the song “Ahí Ahí” earned new Latin Grammy nominations.

He has played a symphonic show at this theatre before. In January 2023, El Nuevo Diario said his 17 February show sold out and a second night followed on 19 February.

The Symphonic Format and the Musicians

Uepa Tickets describes the night as a symphonic concert with Vicente García and the Santo Domingo Philharmonic Orchestra. Its page credits production and direction to Amaury Sánchez.

Diario Libre’s 19 December 2025 agenda listed a Rock Sinfónico night directed by Amaury Sánchez with the Filarmónica de Santo Domingo. That show was listed for the Sala Carlos Piantini, the Teatro Nacional’s main hall.

The ticket page for García’s show does not name a hall, so which one he will use is not known. Neither the page nor his website lists a setlist, guest artists or the orchestra’s size.

Tickets and Prices

Uepa Tickets lists four seating zones, with regular prices in Dominican pesos (DOP) that do not include service charges. Conversions use DOP 61.29 per US dollar, the open.er-api.com rate of 15 October 2026.

  • VIP stalls (Platea VIP): DOP 6,000 (about US$98)
  • Stalls (Platea): DOP 5,000 (about US$82)
  • Lower balcony (Balcón Bajo): DOP 4,000 (about US$65)
  • Upper balcony (Balcón Alto): DOP 3,000 (about US$49)

The page does not say how large the service charge is, so the final price will be higher than these figures. Check the total at checkout before you enter card details.

The theatre does not exchange or return tickets once bought, except in special cases such as a cancelled show. Buy only from Uepa Tickets, the seller named on the artist’s own website.

The ticket page says nothing about children, but the theatre’s rules bar children under five except at children’s shows. Every child admitted needs a ticket unless the theatre says otherwise.

The Venue and How to Get There

The Teatro Nacional Eduardo Brito opened on 16 August 1973 at Avenida Máximo Gómez 35, in the Plaza de la Cultura. It is named for Eduardo Brito, a Dominican baritone, and sits in the capital’s Gazcue district.

Its main hall, the Sala Carlos Piantini, seats 1,578 people in stalls, a suspended balcony and boxes. Whether García plays that hall is not stated on the ticket page.

The theatre names Casandra Damirón station on Metro Line 1, at the Plaza de la Cultura, as its nearest stop. After a night show, ask your hotel to arrange a car for the return trip.

The State Department advises visitors to avoid unregulated taxis and guaguas, the shared minibuses, because they lack basic safety features. Evening traffic around Gazcue can be slow, so leave extra time.

The theatre may refuse entry once its doors close, so arrive at least 30 minutes early. The ticket page says admission is forfeited after the time printed on it.

The theatre’s dress code bars shorts, bermudas, very short skirts, ripped jeans, caps, flip-flops and sandals. Food and drink are not allowed in the halls or lobby, though the theatre runs a bar.

Tips for US and Foreign Visitors

The State Department’s country page, last updated in August 2025, lists a passport valid for six months from arrival. The Dominican tourism ministry gives the same six months as its general rule for tourists.

For US tourists, the ministry’s page adds an exceptional measure that runs from 1 December 2024 to 31 December 2026. It lets them enter with a passport that is valid for the whole stay and departure.

The two pages differ, and the measure’s end date, 31 December, falls 12 days after the concert. Confirm the passport rule with your airline before you fly.

US citizens need no visa to enter as tourists, and every traveller must complete the free eTicket form for entry and exit. The ministry says a US$20 departure tax is already included in airline fares.

Staying beyond 30 days brings an extra fee at departure, on a sliding scale by length of stay. The ministry says it is paid online before departure or at the airport.

The State Department rates the Dominican Republic Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, because of crime, as of its August 2025 update. It tells visitors not to display wealth and to carry their passport at all times.

The Dominican Republic keeps Atlantic Standard Time all year and does not change its clocks. In December that puts Santo Domingo one hour ahead of New York and Miami.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially ends on 30 November, well before the concert. The National Hurricane Center’s outlook of 16 October expected no tropical cyclone formation in the following seven days.

What It Means for You

For a US fan, this is an orchestral night with a Latin Grammy winner at seats from about US$49 before fees. Book flights and a hotel early, because the show falls six days before Christmas.

Expats and residents in Santo Domingo can treat it as a dressy night out. Arrange a car in advance and budget for the service charge, which the ticket page does not price.

What Is Not Known

Uepa Tickets does not name the hall, a door time, the service charge or the number of seats left in each zone. Neither the ticket page nor the artist’s website lists a setlist, guest artists or the show’s length.

It is not known when the concert was first announced or whether it will be filmed or streamed. The ticket page gives no refund terms of its own, and the theatre’s rules allow refunds only in special cases.

What Comes Next

US fans closer to home can see García at ZeyZey Miami, at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, 18 November, and Thursday, 19 November. The venue’s calendar showed the first date as available and the second as selling fast on 16 October.

Any change of date, time or hall would come through Uepa Tickets, so ticket holders should watch their email. The same theatre hosts other shows in the weeks around this one, listed below.
